November 16 is known by a few, likely a very few, to be National Button Day. So, let’s pay a little homage to those fantastic little (or big) disks lining your chest with a few fun facts:
- Ornamental Buttons were discovered among remains of the Indus Valley Civilization as old as 2800 B.C.
- Functional buttons with buttonholes for fastening or closing clothing appeared first in Germany in the 13th century.
- They soon became widespread with the rise of snug-fitting garments in 13th- and 14th-century Europe.
